    3. Review of remaining fall schedule of meetings: As outlined in the agenda, the remaining meetings are:

    4. Approval of spring schedule of regular Policy Committee meetings.  The revised schedule for the spring meetings of the Policy Committee was presented with the final two meetings moved one week earlier.  Members were asked to review and indicate to Hilton or Williamson if there were possible problems with this schedule.  The meetings will be:  January 18 (third Wednesday; instruction begins January 17; King Holiday is January 16): February 15 (third Wednesday);  March 15 (third Wednesdays) (spring vacation starts March 18);  April 5 (first Wednesday);  and April 26 (fourth Wednesday).  The Annual Meeting would be May 9 if held again on the Tuesday of final examination week.
    5. Tenure Workshop:  Hilton continues to work with the current Provost’s staff to set the date.
[NOTE:  The date has since been arranged and will be Thursday, April 20, 2017]

    Action Items

    1. Invitations to Campus Administrators to meet with Policy Committee.  Hilton indicated that he is working to set up a meeting with Chancellor Jones and Provost Feser.  Once that is fixed, he will work with the Executive Vice President to set up a meeting.
[NOTE:  This meeting has been scheduled for Monday, January 23, 2017 at 11 a.m.]
    2. Chapter Workshop on AAUP Censure:  Hilton reported that the meeting has been tentatively scheduled for November 15, 2016 with David O’Brien and William Maher as the prospective speakers.  There was a brief discussion of how to publicize the meeting.
[NOTE:  The Workshop has been moved to Tuesday, December 6 at 3:30 p.m. in 104 Illini Union with David O’Brien as the speaker.]
    3. Report on Activities of the Shared Governance Committee.  Esfahani will send the revised survey to the Policy Committee for review within a day or two.  He is coordinating this survey with the survey from the national office.  The final review will take place at the November Policy Committee meeting.
    4. Co-sponsorship of Events by the AAUP with CFA or other Oorganizations.  Hilton led a discussion about whether the Chapter should co-sponsor events and, if so, with whom and how often.  The question arose because we have been asked if we would co-sponsor the move “Starving the Beast” by James Carville that the Campus Faculty Association (CFA) is bringing to the Art Theater on December 1.  We agreed to that the President could make a final decision on this request once he received further information from the CFA leaders.
    5. Resolution on Use of “Trigger Warnings.”  Prussing led a discussion of the resolution he had sent the Committee.  Prussing agreed to revise and circulate a new draft based on this discussion.  One key point raised in the discussion was the importance of distinguishing between trigger warnings required by an administration and those an instructor decides to give.  Hilton will also see about arranging for a brief presentation at the next meeting by a visiting Postdoctoral Research Associate who is studying this issue.

As noted above, the meeting next month will be November 9, 2016 in 213 Illini Union.

The meeting adjourned at about 1:10 p.m.
